tutor under-resourced kids in nyc
I volunteer for City Tutors which is a remote tutoring program for students in NYC. The pandemic, school closures and remote learning had a tremendously negative impact on students throughout the city, especially students who were already under-resourced. Tutoring services like City Tutors can help close the learning gap from the pandemic and dramatically improve student's long-term outcomes. I volunteer for City Tutors for 1-2 hours per week and have loved it.

help palestinian kids get medical care
i’m palestinian - it’s important to me to support those living under occupation without access to critical resources. the palestine children’s relief fund provides urgent medical care to palestinian kids regardless of religion or political affiliation. consider donating if you can.

feed longtime greenpoint residents
As neighborhoods change and gentrify, the needs of longtime residents are often forgotten or ignored. I'm proud of what the Greenpoint Hunger Program does for the local Greenpoint community by offering take out dinners every Wednesday and a food pantry on Thursdays. They also just gave away 350+ free turkeys to the community during the annual Thanksgiving Turkey Giveaway. This is a lifeline for residents experiencing food insecurity.

provide restaurant-quality meals to new yorkers in need
I'm a huge fan of EVLoves NYC. It's a completely volunteer run group whose goal is to provide gourmet, restaurant-quality meals to New Yorkers in need. They partner with neighborhood based mutual aid groups to distribute the 2k+ meals they cook every Sunday. $2 can feed a New Yorker! I help transport meals back to my neighborhood community fridge, and getting to see the impact it makes is really powerful (and sobering). We have regulars that meet us there each week, and we know that for some of them this is the only home-cooked meal they'll get for the week. It's a great group with wonderful and incredibly thoughtful people.
Also, let me say that it is a wonderful place to meet hot singles 🥵 You can catch me on the clean up shift there each week!

amplify iranian voices
follow on IG to join a protest
This org has been working tirelessly to make sure Iranian voices are heard outside of Iran by setting up protests, obtaining coverage from news outlets, and generally getting the word out about the feminist-led revolution happening in Iran right now. If you're not able to donate monetarily, please come join a protest! Follow their IG for more info.

fight climate change from brooklyn
i've been volunteering with 350brooklyn for a little under 3 years, and it's been a total blast. 350bk is a true grassroots climate organization - it's entirely volunteer based, has different working groups to join based on what you're interested in, and doesn't require any prior climate knowledge or organizing experience. plus, you can still be involved even if you don't have a lot of time to give. 350bk is just a group of brookynites working together, fighting our climate angst, and having fun! i've found a really wonderful community here, learned a ton, and would recommend it to anyone in brooklyn looking to do something about the climate crisis.
mentor software engineers from underrepresented backgrounds
Telegraph Track provides the infrastructure to mentor new software engineers with under-represented backgrounds and help them break into the industry. This is why I support them:
- This program provides a very tangible way to address inequality in tech
- Good use of your job searching and interviewing skills rather than just advancing your own career
- Very rewarding to work with someone, see them gain confidence, and land their first job
- Bonus: impact is quantifiable. I always push my mentees to negotiate hard, and it works!

support wikipedia
I give my riches to a bunch of places but honestly the biggest contribution is usually the Wikimedia Foundation? Because I use Wikipedia like all day every day and it's only fair. My CPW (cost per wik) is probably $0.10 or less. And that's called value.

help ukraine
I’m from Ukraine. If anyone wants to help Ukraine from the US and doesn’t have time to research non profits based in Ukraine - I usually just recommend razomforukraine.org.
I’ve met them personally. They have organized various events in New York since 2014. So they are proven and verified and have a good record.
