write, draw, or paint at a soho cafe
6-7:30pm, this Thursday, 228 Mott St, SoHo
I started Creativity Nights as a way to help busy people scratch their creative itch. It's super low stakes -- I shout out a prompt, you respond to it in any way you want (writing, drawing, painting, etc.), and then you can share if you'd like. It's sort of like a 'drink n draw' meets 'the moth' meets an 'improv night.' Amateurs, pros, and everyone in between is welcome. If you don’t get in this week, sign up to hear about future events at CreativityNights.com or on Instagram @CreativityNights.
meet the bakers at L'Appartmente 4F
11:30am-1pm, Sunday 9/25, L’Appartement 4F, Brooklyn Heights
In the land of Brooklyn Heights, there is a cute bakery run by the soft spoken French man and his vivacious Long Island wife that has left a whole city queuing and commenting on their delicious croissants and pastries. This Sunday, come chill in the L'Appartment 4F space, enjoy some delicious pastries, and get a chance to meet the incredible couple who turned their pandemic project into a buzzing business. This event is hosted by The Eden Place, my community for food lovers.
a connective experience for singles
6:30-9pm, Monday 9/26, 347 Maujer St, East Williamsburg
in the void is an ongoing experiment: what creates depth of connection? we'll test some assumptions: that breath + gaze + words + contact + stillness create feelings of ease, groundedness, comfort, and from that place we'll find each other and together we'll go into the void.
Wanted: A person to share my granny smith green apple with at the park or maybe the river or beach
I can never finish it. An apple at the park sounds like a nice enough idea, but apples now are so large. Average diameter, 3 3/4th of an inch. Who can eat an entire apple in one sitting? The trouble is, you can’t save an apple for later. Like an open beer, a hot cup of coffee, a brief affair with the musician down the hall, over time the apple becomes less than it once was… and soon, it decays. I am watching, now, my half eaten apple browning in some spots, beginning to smell a bit putrid, attracting the company of little fruit flies. Throw it away? Cut my losses? I could. I have. But is a whole half of an apple, and all the efforts it took to become something at all, worth carelessly tossing into the trash bin? Is a human mind worth carelessly scrolling the internet alone at the park? I want more for us, our apples and minds. And yes, I am lonely. Why else would I put out an ad? I just think it’d be a nice routine, you know. Nothing overly romantic. I read my book, I make my notes, I eat a couple bites of the apple then set it down on a napkin between us. You, without asking, pick it up with intuition, not even looking up from your big blank sketchbook upon which you draw delicate hands of the aged and veined variety. Eventually, the apple is down to its core and thrown not in the trash but out towards the trees where it will be consumed by some animal— maybe shared between two. Nothing is wasted, no one is lonely, and everything is sufficiently enjoyed before it goes bad. Serious inquiries only.
